Our IllustratedTalks

We also offer talks about the history of Kingston and Surbiton to groups who would prefer (or find it easier) to listen in a location of your choice rather than walk round the town.

Our talks usually last about 60 minutes (we find that 45 minutes is often not viable while 75 minutes is usually too long!), but we can, of course be flexible.

Below is a selection of talks on offer:

Kingston upon Thames orientated Talks:

  • Things about Kingston you (possibly) didn't know - (Parts 1 and 2).  Each talk is 60 minutes and spaced 4-6 months apart

  • Kingston in 50 Buildings - with the focus on certain buildings in the town and the quirky history behind them

  • The A-Z of Kingston upon Thames - a little on the origin of the alphabet and then historical anecdotes

  • The Annual Shrove Tuesday Football Tradition - up to it's banning in 1867

  • The Bloomer Case at Kingston Court. (background to Women's suffrage)

  • Ballooning around Kingston

  • Kingston and the River Thames

Other Miscellaneous Talks:

  • Ghosts of Surrey

  • The Three VCs of New Malden

  • Cupid's Code - the Secret Codes of Edwardian postcards

  • Growth and development of New Malden

  • The history of Manners and Etiquette

  • Mayday

  • Why is Easter a moveable feat - and Christmas is not?

One important thing to remember is that the talks do not cover or simply repeat things discussed on the walking tours and so, having listened to a talk, people wish to come on our walks they will find that these add more information as opposed to simply repetition.

Logistics and Fees

We can bring a projector and a laptop to your location but we will need a screen (or a suitable blank wall).  While we can usually vocally project to the back of a reasonably sized hall, we are also happy to wear a 'mike' or headset.

Kingston Tour Guides do not charge for either our tours or our talks; none of our guides ever receive payment! However, we do appreciate any donation that a group wishes to make; this can be set by the group themselves on the basis of what they would usually do/pay for an illustrated talk.

If you would like to book one of out Illustrated Talks, Contact Us and we can discuss dates, times and venue.

We look forward to hearing from you.
